Job Description:
The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing and ensuring the accuracy, quality, and compliance of structural steel fabrication and erection drawings, ensuring they meet the required design specifications, codes, and standards. This role requires a strong understanding of steel construction, fabrication processes, and erection techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and review detailed structural steel fabrication and erection drawings to verify accuracy, completeness, and conformity to project specifications and design requirements.
- Ensure that all drawings comply with local building codes, industry standards (e.g., AISC, AWS), and project-specific requirements.
- Collaborate with structural engineers, drafters, project managers, and fabrication teams to resolve discrepancies, design conflicts, or ambiguities in the drawings.
- Verify that material quantities, grades, sizes, and specifications are correctly indicated on the drawings and are in line with project requirements.
- Conduct thorough quality control checks to ensure the integrity of the design and fabrication, identifying potential issues such as incorrect dimensions, structural weaknesses, or omissions.
- Address and document any design errors, omissions, or discrepancies and provide recommendations for corrections.
- Perform constructability reviews to ensure that the design is feasible for fabrication, transport, and field erection.
- Ensure proper organization and storage of all drawings, revisions, and supporting documentation.
- Provide regular feedback, reports, and recommendations to senior management and project teams regarding the status of reviewed drawings.
- Maintain knowledge of the latest construction codes, standards, and best practices for structural steel design and erection.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in reviewing or preparing structural steel fabrication and erection drawings, preferably in construction or engineering firms.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Structural Steel or related fields.
- Experience with 3D modeling or BIM (Building Information Modeling).
- Knowledge of fabrication and erection process automation tools.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting structural steel drawings.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel design codes and standards (e.g., AISC, AWS).
- Familiarity with drafting software such as AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or similar.
- Understanding of fabrication processes, welding techniques, and erection methods.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on ensuring drawing accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
- Ability to identify and resolve design discrepancies, conflicts, and constructability issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with engineering teams, project managers, and clients.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
